The Dimensions of Empowerment of Dalits in India
Dr.Debesh Bhowmik
Dalits are deprived historically. Their human rights have been demolished. They are excluded from social, economic and political life. Their human poverty indices are very low. The access of land and agricultural inputs are minimum to maintain livelihood. India’s economic development kept them aside in a good position constitutionally through reservation but push them into competitive market under liberalization and privatization and they are forced into practices of entrepreneurship. Still now, they are ignored and ill nourished. A sub-plan with higher allocation is necessary for their upliftment. Besides, government should calculate dis-aggregative human development indices for Dalits to frame targets in the plans.
